… interest form sold for N500,000

In less than two weeks after the demise of the late Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, no fewer than 12 heirs to the throne have indicated interest to become the next Soun from the Laoye ruling family, the lineage to produce the next king.

Westernpost reliable gathered that forms for interested candidates vying for the highly exalted throne sold for N500,000.00 by the ruling family.

The amount, which some family members objected to as being on the high side, according to a family source, is intended to reduce or streamline the number of interested persons from the ruling house.

As at the time of reporting, 12 persons have so far picked up the form which according to the source would close soon after which an interview will be conducted for successful candidates by the kingmakers in the land.

It was also gathered that a successor is to be announced after the 41 days Fidau prayer and funeral celebrations of the late Soun who reigned for 48 years

Though unconfirmed, the source further hinted that the late monarch had before his demise, wished that the kingmakers name a successor within three weeks after his exit in order not to create a vacuum in the kingdom.

It would be recalled that Oba Jimoh Oyewumi joined his ancestors on December 12, 2021 at the age of 95 years.

In his condolence message, Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde said the foremost traditional ruler used his wealth of experience to develop Ogbomosoland over the past decades.

He said that the monarch made a lasting impact on his domain, while also leaving indelible marks on Oyo State and humanity.
