2023: Saraki, Tambuwal, Others Visit Makinde To Discuss Consensus Arrangement
A former Senate President and Presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Bukola Saraki earlier today led Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohamed; Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a former Managing Director at FSB Intl Bank PLC on a visit to Governor Seyi Makinde to discuss the consensus arrangement for the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Saraki in his address noted that the visit was necessitated by the position Governor Makinde holds as a stakeholder of the party and the need for every stakeholder to be on board with the consensus arrangement to ensure that the party projects a united front in the upcoming elections.
His words: “We are here this afternoon to meet Oyo state, Governor Seyi Makinde a key stakeholder of our party.
“As a key stakeholder of the party, we need to brief him on the idea of the consensus arrangement that we are trying to do together. We have looked at the country today, the hardship that people are going through, the issue of insecurity and it is clear that only our party, PDP can provide that brighter future for the country. To do that, we the party must be ready for government in 2023 and that involves uniting ourselves and being focused.
“It is not about individual interests, it is the interest of Nigerians that matters. We have decided among ourselves that we are ready to subject ourselves to a consensus arrangement.
“The consensus arrangement is not for just one part of the country. Rather, it is an arrangement for the whole party. Whoever wins the Presidential ticket cannot fix this country all by himself. He needs the support of everybody and we want that foundation to start now and that’s why we are here to seek the blessings of Governor Seyi Makinde and address some concerns he might have on the issue of the consensus arrangement.”
Governor Makinde in his response appreciated the visit and pledged to work hand in hand with aspirants to ensure that the consensus arrangement is successful.
He said, “We believe we can do it and we also believe that Nigerians will take this party seriously when they know that we are all working together to give to them a president through a process that has everybody’s buy-in; where there is no rancour among the stakeholders. So, I promise my elder brothers that we will work hand in hand to ensure that this consensus arrangement is successful.”
