Incompetency : Adelabu’s Absence Sparks Questions as Tinubu Inaugurates Power Sector Committee

Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has been notably absent from the recently inaugurated committee aimed at addressing Nigeria’s power sector challenges. The 11-member committee, chaired by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, is tasked with establishing the Grid Asset Management Company Limited (GAMCO) to optimize power generation and transmission.

GAMCO’s primary objective is to recover at least 1,600 megawatts of electricity within 18-24 months, focusing on the Benin-Lagos transmission corridor. The committee will review existing laws, regulations, and institutional frameworks governing Nigeria’s electricity value chain.

Adelabu’s absence has raised questions about his role in the power sector reforms, with some critics attributing the sector’s woes to his leadership. The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties and the Coalition of National Civil Society Organisations have demanded his resignation, citing incompetence and lack of capacity to address Nigeria’s chronic electricity crisis.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has also expressed doubts about Adelabu’s ability, stating that he lacks the capacity to serve as Minister of Power. Makinde revealed that he had warned President Tinubu about Adelabu’s limitations before his appointment.

The power sector’s challenges have led to widespread frustration among Nigerians, with many calling for urgent reforms. The GAMCO initiative aims to address these challenges, but the absence of the Minister of Power has raised concerns about the government’s commitment to meaningful change.

The committee is expected to submit its report and recommendations to President Tinubu within a specified timeframe, with the aim of improving Nigeria’s power supply and addressing the country’s energy needs.

Nigeria’s power crisis has left the nation in darkness for months, with many Nigerians pointing fingers at Minister of Power Bayo Adelabu. Critics say he’s more focused on politics than his ministerial duties, leading to questions about his ability to lead the ministry. The situation has sparked widespread frustration, with some calling for his resignation, citing his lack of capacity to tackle the country’s electricity woes. The power shortage has affected daily life, with many businesses and households struggling to cope.
