The Vice Chairman of Ogbomoso South Local Government, Alhaja Mujidat Kareem, has rejected her purported suspension, alleging that her gender and religious identity were used as reasons to deny her the opportunity to succeed the Executive Chairman should he eventually be suspended.
Recounting her experience, Kareem disclosed that she was invited by some members of the Legislative Arm to the residence of the Majority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, outside the local government secretariat, where she was allegedly asked to swear an oath.
She described the request as diabolical and contrary to her religious beliefs, explaining that she declined to participate because it conflicted with her faith as a Muslim.
Kareem further alleged that during the encounter, she was told that she could not succeed the Executive Chairman because she is a woman and a Muslim, even if the Chairman were eventually suspended.
In another troubling account, the Vice Chairman claimed that she was booed and nearly physically assaulted by suspected political touts at the residence.
She expressed concern over what she considered discriminatory treatment, questioning why her gender and religious beliefs should become obstacles to her constitutional position and any lawful succession arrangement in the local government.
Kareem maintained that she would not accept any purported suspension arising from what she described as questionable circumstances, insisting that her faith and gender should not be used as instruments of political exclusion.
