The purported plan to impeach Rauf Olaniyan, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, by the State’s House of Assembly has continued to raise dust among politicians and political watchers within and outside the state, as a political group tagged it as a bad taste.

It was reported that Ridwan Kolawole, a reporter in Ibadan, said that a political group in the state, Political Awareness Group (PAG), has warned of a looming crisis if the proposed impeachment of Olaniyan hold, as the reporter described it as ill-motivated and unwarranted.

According to a statement issued by the group’s Chairman, Abdulwaheed Olowonjaye, PAG advised the State House of Assembly to avoid the avoidable mistake by stopping the impeachment move. He said:

“The planned decision to impeach the deputy governor would bring about crisis, as he pointed out that such experience in the past dragged the state to a decade of decadence.”

However, it was gathered that PAG also praised the members of the State House of Assembly for coming out to nullify the planned impeachment, as they warned the plotters not to be used as agents to destabilize the state.

Olowonjaye also said that PAG, which is an association of professionals and technocrats for good governance, condemned the attack and destruction of property of the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Amudalat Olaniyan, by some hoodlums, thereby, calling for a true-investigation to bring the culprits to book.
