Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds Expected in Oyo and 14 Other States

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting three days of heavy rainfall and strong winds in Oyo and 14 other states. The forecast, published in NiMet’s latest edition of impact-based weather forecast bulletin, highlights the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall over various regions.

According to NiMet, the forecast period for heavy rainfall extends from midnight on Friday, October 6, 2023, to the following day, covering parts of Adamawa, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Plateau, Taraba, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Kogi, Kwara, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun states. On Saturday, October 7, similar conditions are expected, encompassing areas within Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Cross River, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Imo, Anambra, Kogi, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, and Oyo states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

NiMet also warns of the likelihood of moderate to heavy rainfall on Sunday, October 8, affecting parts of Taraba, Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, and Ogun states.

In terms of temperature-related hazards, NiMet assures that the country will experience low to moderate temperatures during this period, reducing the chances of any associated risks.

Additionally, NiMet forecasts that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Plateau, and 15 other states may experience strong winds over the next three days (October 6, 7, and 8, 2023). Regions likely to be affected include Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Niger, Katsina, Kwara, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, Gombe, Nasarawa, Plateau, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, and Borno states, along with the FCT.
