The sacked 68 chairmen of Local Government and Local Council Development Areas of Oyo State yesterday chided the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) and Governor Seyi Makinde over the planned May 7 council poll.

The sacked chairmen under the aegis of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State chapter described the planned poll as scam and fraud.

The chairmen were elected during the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi administration but sacked on May 29,2019 by Governor Makinde.

It would be recalled that OYSIEC had declared that the council poll would be held on May 15,2021. However the Supreme Court is expected to deliver judgement on the matter on May 7 , 2021.

Speaking with journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State Chairman of ALGON, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, said fixing the poll when judgement is being expected was illegal, presumptuous, wasteful and unnecessary.

The group which said they looked forward for a favourable judgement, said what would become of huge resources if ALGON wins the judgement.

“While all parties to the suit are expected to await the judgement for final closure since the Supreme Court has fixed a date to deliver ruling on the matter.”

“There has been threat to our life. They made several attempts on our lives. We don’t believe in violence. Nobody has the monopoly of violence. We need to get justice.”

“Nobody is participating in any illegality. That means we are going against the rule of law. We can never participate in the election”

“We advise political parties and candidates not to invest in OYSIEC electoral market process which lead to nowhere if ALGON wins at the Supreme Court on May 7, 2021.Don’t be scammed. After May 7 judgement, the political climate will be clear to all and sundry and nobody will be scammed.

“On this point, We call on OYSIEC to stop the process of its scammed election; it is illegal, presumptuous, wasteful and unnecessary “.
