Oyo Government To Reward Oyo Commonwealth Games Athletes

The Oyo State government has promised to give adequate rewards and motivation to athletes who won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the national and international competitions.

Hon. Seun Fakorede, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Oyo State dropped this hint in Ibadan, when the Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council and his teams presented the athletic champions in Weightlifting, Powerlifting and Cycling to him in his office.

The champion, Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist, Rofiat Lawal; Silver Medalist, Taiwo Liadi and Bronze Medalist, Osijo Taiwo; were part of the team who presented their medals to Fakorede.

Fakorede stated that the champions made Oyo State proud and the government will ensure that they are rewarded accordingly to serve as an impetus for them to achieve greater heights in the foreseeable future.

The commissioner opined that the feats of the athletes in national and international tournament is attributable to the grace of God, stressing that it is good to appreciate God for all the victories recorded by them since the inception of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde’s administration in 2019.

The commissioner pledged that the governor will host the athletes in recognition of their remarkable, outstanding and excellent performances during the various international tournaments.

The Olympian Para Powerlifting Champions, Yakubu Adesokan and Modinat Babalola presented the trophy won at 1st runner up during the First – Para games in M K O ABIOLA Stadium, Abuja.

Pleased with their performance, the commissioner presented medals to the athletes and pledged further that the state government will not renege on his promise to improve the welfare of the citizenry.
