Oyo Reintroduces History In Public Schools
Oyo State Government has directed public primary schools to implement the teaching of history as an independent subject, starting from the third term of the 2021/2022 academic session.
The Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, made this known yesterday in Ibadan while monitoring schools’ resumption.
Adeniran, who hailed the massive turnout of pupils in public primary schools, said reintroduction of history was in line with the new education policy of the government.
He praised the leadership of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Abuja for the technical support received, as well as the supply of textbooks.
Adeniran said over 4,950 history textbooks were being distributed to public primary schools state-wide, adding that this would give pupils a proper understanding of the country’s history.
He said the curriculum would enable pupils to appreciate history as an instrument of national integration, noting that it would allow pupils to know the country’s history.
Adeniran, an Education expert, who dazzled OYOSUBEB workers and teachers by teaching pupils, said he was optimistic that the curriculum would equip the younger generation with the knowledge of the past.
He said the importance of history to nation building, patriotism and human development could not be overemphasised.
Adeniran appreciated the heads of public primary schools across the state, who had begun academic activities immediately.
He said idleness of teachers or pupils would not be tolerated.
