In preparation for the upcoming Saki West state constituency rerun election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo state has successfully received sensitive and non-sensitive materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Dugbe Ibadan.

Under tight security, the delivery was witnessed by representatives from major political parties, INEC’s administrative secretary, Mr Agboola Razaq, and various stakeholders. The materials, including ballot papers, result sheets, and replacement forms, were contained in six cartons.

Dr. Adeniran Tella, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Oyo state, confirmed the receipt of the materials, emphasizing that the commission would utilize two BVAS (Biometric Voter Accreditation System) with two backups for the exercise. Commissioner of Police in Oyo state, Hamzat Adebola, pledged the deployment of 182 police officers to ensure security during the rerun.

Representatives from both the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Tajudeen Olanite, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Abiodun Popoola, expressed satisfaction with the delivery process.

The need for the rerun in the Saki West state constituency arose due to result cancellations stemming from over-voting in polling units 006, by-passing of BVAS during election accreditation, and a narrow margin of lead between the two candidates, prompting the tribunal’s judgment and the subsequent declaration of a rerun.
