UI Mgt Confirms Covid-19 Case, But Maintained There’s no Cause For Alarm

The management of the University of Ibadan has reacted to a report by going the rounds over palpable fear in the University Community after a case of covid-19 was reported. confirming the case the mgt stated that a patient at the institution’s clinic was tested positive for COVID-19.

Recall that this Newspaper had earlier yesterday reported that there was panic in the university community over the possible spread of COVID-19.

However, the management in a statement signed by its Director of Public Communication, Olatunji Oladejo.

It explained that immediately the COVID-19 case was confirmed, the Oyo State Emergency Operations Centre was notified and necessary steps had been taken.

The statement read:

“The University of community and the general public are hereby informed that a client who was first seen on 10 December and later admitted in the University Health Service (Jaja Clinic) overnight of 13/14 December tested positive to COVID-19.

“The Oyo State Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was notified immediately.

“Accordingly, the Centre inspected the premises (Jaja Clinic), and made the following recommendations:
(1) Disinfection/Decontamination of premises which has been done;
(2) Follow-up of all those who had contact with the client by the EOC; and
(3) Closure of the clinic from 4.00pm of 15 December, 2020 for a 7day period.

“Opening will be subject to review by the Oyo State Emegency Operation Centre (EOC).

“Beyond closure, the EOC is working with the UHS (Jaja Clinic) to ensure that all processes for safe work are put in place.

“NHIS enrollees may access care at the Eleyele Police clinic during the closure.

“Meanwhile, the COVID-19 positive fellow is being attended to and there should be no panic.

“Members of the community are enjoined to stay safe by observing all recommended precautions to prevent disease and promote health.”
