UPDATED: Deadly Clash Between Oyo Security Agents and Herders Claims Multiple Lives

A violent clash between security agents and a group of Fulani herdsmen in Apalokun village, Iwerele, Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State has left several people feared dead.

 

The incident occurred on Saturday, October 14, when the herdsmen invaded a farm in the community with their cattle, resulting in the death of the farm owner during an argument. Additionally, crops worth thousands of naira were destroyed, causing widespread panic in the community.

The security operatives, including Operation Burst, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Amotekun, and Soludero, were called in to restore peace in the area but were reportedly ambushed by the Fulani herdsmen. The clash resulted in the loss of lives and numerous injuries.

 

The incident is currently under investigation by the state security agencies, with representatives from both the Fulani and community heads attending meetings with the heads of the security agencies.

A government source expressed concern over the escalating violence and emphasized the need for a permanent solution to prevent further loss of lives.

 

Efforts to obtain a comment from the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
