The truck was said to be carrying dozens of labourers and was on top speed going toward Ikire Road, when another truck, coming out of Badeku Village, crossed the express road.

An eyewitness said in an attempt by the driver of the crashed truck to avoid a collision, it lost control and somersaulted, flinging the passengers in different directions.

Security operatives including men of the Nigerian Police and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who arrived at the scene were said to have helped in carrying the victims to the hospitals.

The Sector Commander, FRSC, Oyo State Command, Mrs Unce Chukwurah, confirmed the accident.

Chukwurah said the truck had 26 labourers that were going for construction in the area.

“It was a lone accident. The yellow tipper vehicle was carrying 26 people. Nineteen of them were injured; seven died in the accident.

“The injured have been taken to ASBON Hospital at Gbagi area for treatment, while remains of the seven dead had been collected by their relatives for burial,” she said
