The management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has issued a firm warning to its students over a proposed protest expected to take place on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. The institution is urging students to abandon the protest plans in the interest of peace and order on campus. This was disclosed in an official statement signed by the Acting Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Mr. Joseph Adewumi Ogunjimi. The management specifically called on the Students’ Union and the general student population to avoid any act of protest or obstruction of the institution’s main gates.According to the statement, the school is aware that the gates are to be blocked starting from 6:00 am on the mentioned date, and it has strongly advised against such action.”The management strongly warns against any protest that may threaten the peace of the institution or contradict the interest of the state government. Such actions will not be tolerated,” the statement noted. It further emphasized that any disruption would be regarded as a challenge to the authorities. “Any conduct that undermines the school or the government will be treated as a serious offence,” the statement added.Parents and guardians were also called upon to caution their children and wards. The institution appealed to them to discourage actions that could disrupt academic and administrative activities on campus. To ensure order is maintained, the management confirmed that it had put preventive measures in place, including collaboration with external security agencies and the institution’s internal security team. This development comes at a time when campus tensions are high following the Oyo State Government’s controversial decision to rename the institution — a move that has been met with opposition from students, alumni, and various stakeholders.
