“Victory for Democracy”: Folajimi Oyekunle Hails Oyo High Court Verdict Affirming Peoples Democratic Party Convention, Rejects One-Party State

The Member representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Folajimi Oyekunle (DoN), has reacted to the recent judgment of the Oyo State High Court which upheld the legitimacy of the Peoples Democratic Party convention held in Ibadan.

Oyekunle described the ruling as a victory for democracy and internal party stability, stressing that the judgment reinforces the principles of fair political participation within Peoples Democratic Party.

According to the federal lawmaker, the country cannot afford a one-party political system, noting that democracy thrives on diversity of ideas, ideological balance, and institutional checks and balances.

“We all cannot face the same direction politically and ideologically and expect excellent results. There must be checks and balances for democracy to have its way and remain stronger,” he stated.

He expressed optimism that with further judicial determinations expected in the coming days, the party would continue to stand firm and remain committed to the aspirations and welfare of the people.

Oyekunle added that “in no time, light will shine brighter and the enemies of the party will be exposed again,” insisting that the ruling was a step toward consolidating the unity and democratic structure of the party.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his confidence in the ability of the party to remain resilient while serving the interests of members and supporters across political divides, in the state and particularly within Ibadan North Federal Constituency.

He urged party members to remain calm, law-abiding, and hopeful, emphasizing that democracy is strengthened when justice is allowed to prevail through legitimate judicial processes.
