…as Police probe viral video on reported killings of 32 persons

Gunmen have kidnapped four persons at the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) end of Ibadan/Ijebu-Ode Road in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Also, the Police have commenced a probe into a viral video where a suspect claimed to have killed 32 persons in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the two incidents in separate statements to newsmen in Ibadan on Wednesday.

Olayinka disclosed that the response team has successfully rescued one of the four persons abducted by suspected kidnappers, while efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims.

He added that the rescued individual has been taken into safe custody, where he is currently undergoing debriefing as part of ongoing investigations into the incident.

The PPRO stated that the victim’s vehicle was also recovered by the operatives during the operation.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has directed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to immediately reinforce officers at the Idi-Ayunre Divisional Police Headquarters.

The directive also involves the deployment of other tactical teams to support the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and personnel already on the ground.

The security teams have since launched an intensive bush-combing operation across surrounding areas in a bid to locate the kidnappers and secure the safe release of the remaining victims.

Police authorities assured that the operation will continue until all those responsible for the abduction are apprehended and the other victims rescued unharmed.

In another development, the Police have commenced an investigation into a viral video where one Shawama claimed to have killed 32 persons in the state.

The PPRO, in a statement, said the Command was taking the claims seriously.

“As a responsible and responsive agency, the Command has launched a thorough investigation into the allegations and the confessional statements contained in the video

“The investigation is being conducted leveraging advanced technology, including digital forensics and digital footprint analysis, to ensure a robust and credible outcome,” the statement read.

The police also appealed to members of the public with information that could help identify Shawama or any accomplices.
