After Adamasingba, Makinde Bids for Obafemi Awolowo Stadium’s Remodeling

The Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde has reiterated his continual efforts at strengthening sporting culture in the state.

The governor stated this on Friday while receiving and presenting cash awards to state representatives totalling 296 athletes from the state, to include the coaching crew at the Delta 2022 National festivals held in Asaba Town between 21st November and 10th December, 2022 which crowned the state 2nd on the log table with 60 medals.

Makinde stressed that the state is ready to take-up the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium for remodelling through the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, while remodelling of Lekan Salami Adamasingba Stadium be completed this December with further needed equipment for procurement and staff sport recruitment to the stadiums.

Meanwhile, the governor has approved the voucher gift of ten thousand, seven thousand five hundred and five thousand dollars to the state representatives at the 2023 Commonwealth games held at Birmingham last year, 1 million, 500, 000 and 350, 000 to first, second and third medalists at the National festival at Delta while other teammates receive 250 thousand naira respectively.

In her brief remark, head of the medalists, Omotoyosi Oshewa, while appreciating the governor, appealed to the state government to maintain its continual support for sporting activities for more development in the sector.

In the meantime, the event had in attendance
the Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service, Chief of staff, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable members, political functionaries, among others.
