Al-Qalam Schools Host Successful Inter-house Sports Event, Promoting Physical Wellness Among Muslims

Al-Qalam Schools in Ibadan recently held their 4th Biennial Inter-House Sports Competition at the Awo Stadium of the University of Ibadan. The event, attended by esteemed Muslim dignitaries and parents, showcased a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie among the students.

Blue House emerged as the overall winner, with Yellow House as the runner-up. The school’s management emphasized the importance of physical activity for overall well-being, drawing parallels between sports and Islamic teachings.

Mr. Abd Mu’meen Olalekan Ajala, while delivering the management’s welcome address, highlighted the tradition of the biennial sports day that began a decade ago and expressed the increased level of anticipation among participants. The school management underscored the values instilled by sports, emphasizing honesty, responsibility, and mental health awareness. They urged participants and the Muslim community at large to embrace a culture of fitness, citing the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Solallahu alaey’ wasalam) on the importance of physical wellness.

Among the attendees were prominent figures such as Alhaji Lukman Akinyemi, CEO of Akinyemi Electricals Ibadan, and Associate Professor Abdwawasiy Ajagbe. The Director of Academics, Hajia Rukayat Otun, highlighted the collaborative and team-building aspects of the event, stating that all learners and houses are winners.

Parents and students alike praised the organization and planning of the event, with Mrs. Oyebami Alimat commending the enjoyable and interesting competition. Student Ikumapayi Toheerah expressed enthusiasm for showcasing athletic abilities and supporting their respective houses, while staff member Mr. Nkem Davies celebrated the success of Blue House and the collective effort of the school community.

The competition featured various events such as the 100m races, relay races, sack race, and tug of war, keeping the audience on edge until the final results were announced. Medals were presented to champions in different sports, as well as to parents, invited schools, and staff members who participated and emerged victorious. The event concluded with the presentation of prestigious awards to honor house sponsors.

In conclusion, the management expressed gratitude to Allah (God) for the success of the event and extended appreciation to the PTA Executive, parents, sponsors, guests, and well-wishers for their continuous support in fulfilling the school’s mission statement of holistic education and values.
