Honourable Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi, a serving Federal lawmaker and one of the sons of the late revered Yoruba foremost traditional ruler, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, the Alaafin of Oyo, has announced a series of programs for the remembrance and one-year anniversary of his father’s passage.
Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III (Iku Baba Yeye) died at the age of 83 on April 22, 2022, after developing complications related to prostate enlargement. He was on the throne for 51 years, the longest reign of any Alaafin of Oyo in modern recorded history.
Adeyemi, who represents the Afijio, Oyo West, Oyo East, Atiba West federal constituency in the Nigeria Federal House of Representatives, paid tribute to his father in a post on his Facebook page to mark the one-year anniversary of the monarch’s passage. In the post titled “Rest On, Kabiyesi: A Year Without Our Father,” the lawmaker also announced a series of programs put together to mark the one-year anniversary and immortalize the late Alaafin of Oyo.
