Angry Mob Set Ablaze Two Men In Ibadan,Police Warns Against Jungle Justice

Two persons were set ablaze by angry mob at Asas Molete and Oke Ado areas of Ibadan, the Oyo State on Monday.

This is as another escaped being burnt through the swift intervention of the Amotekun Corps officers after been beaten blue black by angry mobs.

Spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, Olugbenga Fadeyi confirmed the incidents in a statement.

He said investigation has commenced to unravel the situation that led to the incidents, warning that residents must desist from all act of jungle justice before it degenerates into a reign of lawlessness.

But unconfirmed sources said the person burnt at the Molete axis was caught attempting to steal a baby.

Fadeyi statement reads in part “Two persons were set a blazed by angry mob both at Asas Molete and Oke Ado areas of Ibadan today 28/12/2020 at about 0900 hrs, while one other was rescued by Amotekun team, handed to the Police and treated at the Police Clinic Eleyele.

“Sequel to this, investigation has commenced into the matter to ascertain the immediate and remote cause of the action of the angry mob.

“Notwithstanding, act of jungle justice is condemned in strong term as this has become a recurring decimal in the state.

“When allowed to continue unabated, it will degenerate into what all and sundry will not be able to curb thereafter and many innocent lives will be terminated unjustly.

“Consequent upon this, the Commissioner of Police therefore warns those that are taking laws into their hands should stop forthwith before the long hands of the laws caught up with them.”
