A suspected armed robber terrorising some areas in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, has been allegedly lynched by some angry residents.
The suspected armed robber had also been accused of having raped some of his female victims.
In the last few weeks, it was gathered that suspected armed robbers had been terrorising some communities in Apete in the Ido Local Government Area.
Sources said that one of the suspected armed robbers was caught around 4 am on Wednesday while on an operation in the Adagbada Arola area in Apete.
He was allegedly beaten to death by angry residents.
It was gathered that the suspected armed robber forcefully took mobile phones and an undisclosed amount of money from two ladies. He locked one of them inside a toilet while making moves to rape the other. It was the one locked in the toilet that escaped and alerted neighbours.
The case was later brought to the attention of police officers from Apete Divisional Headquarters on Wednesday.
The corpse was recovered by the police and taken to Adeoyo state hospital.
But efforts made by DAILY POST to get a reaction from the state police command on Thursday proved to be abortive.
Calls put through the mobile phone of the Public Relations Officer of the police command, Adewale Osifeso, were not answered, while an SMS sent to him for a reaction has yet to be replied to as of the time of filing this report on Thursday.
