A fire broke out at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Oríta Aperin area of Ibadan South East local government on Friday. According to an anonymous eyewitness, the fire appears to have been caused by an electrical surge, as there was no apparent source of an open flame. The employees in the office were unaware of the fire until students from a nearby public school alerted them.

Fortunately, some of the materials from the office were salvaged and taken to the nearby police station for safekeeping. The Chairman of Ibadan South East local government, Mr Emmanuel Alawode, arrived at the scene immediately after being informed of the incident and stated that an investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire.

Various security agencies, including the Nigerian Police, Operation Burst, Amotekun, and Man O’War, were present to assist in extinguishing the fire and ensure the protection of salvaged materials from potential theft.
