Ido Local Government Legislators Stand United with Oyo Government in the Aftermath of Illegal Mining Activities, Call on Residents to Remain Vigilant

In a bid to ensure the safety and security of its citizens, the Ido Local Government Council Legislators have joined forces with the Oyo State Government to address the issue of illegal mining activities. They have called on residents to report any suspicious or unlawful actions taking place in their area that could potentially endanger lives and properties.

During a session held at the state Secretariat in Ibadan tuesday, the legislators echoed the government’s stance on the matter, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures to prevent future occurrences. Hon. Rafiu Omotosho, the Leader of the House, urged residents to heed the directives of the State government in averting such incidents.

The legislators also emphasized the significance of the “see something, say something” approach advocated by Governor Seyi Makinde. By reporting any suspicious activities, residents are playing a crucial role in enabling the authorities to take prompt action without jeopardizing the lives of the people.

The urgency to address this issue stems from the recent explosion that rocked the heart of Ibadan on January 16th. The incident occurred at Dejo Oyelese Street, Bodija Ibadan, resulting in extensive damage to properties worth billions of naira. Additionally, 77 individuals were injured, and sadly, 2 lives were lost. Governor Seyi Makinde revealed that the explosion was caused by illegal miners operating in the state. He has promised to ensure that all those involved in the heinous act are brought to justice, regardless of their status or position.

The Ido Local Government Council Legislators and the Oyo State Government are determined to tackle the issue of illegal mining head-on. They are urging residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to safeguard the well-being of the Community. By working together, they aim to put an end to these illegal activities and create a safer environment for everyone in Ido and the entire state of Oyo.
