Benedict Akika, a close ally of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has regained his freedom after being kidnapped from his Ibadan residence. Sources close to the incident confirmed his release late Wednesday night.

Akika, who was abducted six days ago by armed gunmen at his Olorunda residence, was taken to an undisclosed location. His sudden release has been confirmed by two government sources, though it remains unclear if a ransom was paid to secure his freedom.

Following his release, Akika was immediately taken to a medical facility for thorough examination to ensure his well-being after the traumatic experience.

In the days leading up to his release, Akika’s supporters organized interdenominational prayers, seeking divine intervention for his safe return. The prayers highlighted the widespread concern and hope for his freedom among his associates and loyalists.

Although Akika is a non-indigene, his strong ties with Governor Makinde have enabled him to facilitate numerous developmental projects in the Akobo-Olorunda axis of Lagelu Local Government. His contributions to the community were recognized when local traditional rulers bestowed upon him the honorary title of Agbaakin of Olorunda.

Benedict Akika’s abduction and subsequent release have drawn significant attention across the state, underscoring the continued concern for the safety and security of key figures within the administration.
