….says it was in his house that himself, Ladoja, late Ajimobi, others, plotted against PDP

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state, Chief Niyi Akintola SAN, has stated that former governor of Lagos state and one of the national leaders of the party, Chief Ahmed Bola Tinubu had told him to get ready to become governor of Oyo state prior to the 2011 governorship election but he (Akintola) conceded the slot to late Abiola Ajimobi.

In a report by Sunrisebulletin which narrates how the senior advocate made this the assertion while addressing members of South West Group Of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) in Ibadan on Tuesday during a breakfast media chat.

The legal luminary explained that the concept of ‘omoluabi’ which the Yoruba people are known for no longer applies today especially among politicians adding that conceding what many may describe as a ‘lifeline’ when Tinubu told him to get ready to become governor of Oyo state before 2011 governorship was done in the spirit of ‘omoluabi’.

“What I am trying to say is that uncle Abiola Ajimobi was very close to me because he was there that day, he was not a governor then and when Asiwaju that day said yes! I should get ready to be governor of Oyo state I said I still have an elder, some of you were there.

“And I am younger than uncle Abiola Ajimobi and I said ‘mo si ni awon egbon ni iwaju e je k’an se na’ so I had the opportunity of stealing the show but I didn’t and when we started I took him to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu everybody knows it.”

Chief Akintola added that he was the one who took late Abiola Ajimobi to Bola Tinubu in Lagos stressing that it was a fact everybody knows.

“I took him there, because he had fallen out, he was in my house in Ikeja, I was on exile in Ikeja for 14 months, I was in the hotel living in the hotel Asiwaju was picking the bills.

“And when I had my own house in Omole all of them were coming there including Chief Ladoja, uncle Abiola Ajimobi, Senator Amosun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Fayemi, all of them. My place was the meeting point where we plotted against the PDP.

“So uncle Biola was very close to me he was actually staying in my house, in fact, at a stage himself and chief Ladoja were staying in my guest room so, we know each other far more than I can tell you.”

Chief Akintola maintained that his relationship with late Abiola Ajimobi spanned many years stressing that those claiming to be closer to the late governor today are merely opportunists.

Akintola said, “o dun ade leyin now sebi ise t’awa se le wa je, the opportunists are always there surrounding those in power because those who actually make things to happen, when the push comes to shove they will push them to the background and the charlatans will move away.”

Chief Akintola, while describing what stands him out among other APC chieftain in their disposition to criticism of the Seyi Makinde led government maintained that he will commend the governor if he gets anything right and criticize him for going wrong adding that the eventual ceding of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) to Oyo state as sole owner was a landmark achievement by governor Makinde’s administration.

He noted that Makinde’s government operates on the wheels of populism adding that the administration lacks a team of tink tanks and a template upon which the government would run stressing that two key weapons the Makinde led government has continually used against the APC in Oyo state are mainly ‘populism and demarketing’.

Akintola however, assured that he is prepared to contest the 2023 governorship election on the platform of the progressives party stressing that he would neither back down on his political ambition nor step down for any aspirant by way of imposition.
