Oyo Govt Directs Schools To Cancel Staggered Classes And Resume Normal Sessions

Oyo State government has directed all public and private schools to resume normal classes and stop staggered classes as from next academic session in a bid to return normalcy to school calendar Akéde Ọ̀yọ́ reports.

This was made known by the state government in a circular dated 24th of December, 2020 and signed by the Commissioner for Education, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye.

Akéde Ọ̀yọ́ Recall that a member of the state Assembly representing Ibadan North Constituency 2 Hon Adebayo Babajide had earlier pleaded with the governernment to allow a return to normal calendar,as it’s no more conducive for both schools and student.

The measure adopted to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease stipulated by the state government was that schools should adopt staggered classes which means morning and afternoon session for students.

However, the government rescinded the decision as the second wave of the deadly disease begins.

The government also urged schools to adhere strictly with the Covid-19 guidelines adding that they should use all available infrastructure in the school suitable for classrooms to ensure required distancing.

The circular reads: “I wish to remind all stakeholders of the staggered attendance of classes during the first term and that the second term 2020/2021 Academic Session will commence from Monday 11 January, 2021.

“Consequent upon the above, all Public and Private Schools (Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Technical Colleges) in the State are to resume normal classes.

“However, you are to use all available infrastructures in the school suitable for temporary classrooms to ensure required distancing as well as continue to strictly observe other conditions stated in the guidelines for resumption due to COVID 19.”
