PDP Rift Deepens: Makinde Breaks Ranks With Wike, Throws Support Behind Atiku’s Camp Ahead of NEC Meeting

0

Tensions within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are escalating as the crucial National Executive Council (NEC) meeting looms closer, with reports indicating a fracture in unity within the camp led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

A significant rift has emerged within the party, particularly as the meeting approaches, as prominent member and Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has chosen to distance himself from the influential G-5 faction.

Sources suggest that Governor Makinde, who has faced strained relations with the faction in recent times, is aligning himself with voices advocating for a shift in the party’s current trajectory.

While the Wike-led faction is backing Ambassador Illiya Damagum for the position of PDP National Chairman, Makinde is reportedly throwing his weight behind Senator Gabriel Suswam, supported by former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

The NEC meeting, slated for Thursday, will be preceded by a series of strategic meetings starting today, including the PDP Governors’ Forum, the PDP Caucus, and the Board of Trustees (BoT).

Alongside Suswam, former minister Humphrey Abba from Kogi State and Dr. Emmanuel Agbo from Benue State have expressed their desire to assume the role of party chairman, all hailing from the North Central region.
