In a significant political move set to reshape the landscape of Oyo North, Shina Abiola Peller, former Accord Party candidate in the 2023 National Assembly election, is poised to formally join the ranks of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The highly anticipated event is scheduled for Thursday, February 29th, 2024, at the historic venue of Ojúde Ọba in Iseyin.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, alongside top party dignitaries, is expected to lead the welcoming ceremony for Peller, a prominent figure known for his past representation of the Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola federal constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC) banner from 2019 to 2023.

The Acting Publicity Secretary of the PDP, in a statement released Wednesday afternoon, officially confirmed Peller’s imminent defection, highlighting Governor Makinde’s transformative leadership as a pivotal factor in attracting new members to the party.

“Governor Seyi Makinde has elevated the PDP in Oyo State to unprecedented heights, and his exemplary governance serves as our party’s beacon of progress,” the statement read.

“Peller’s decision to join the PDP marks the beginning of a wave of defections in this political season. We urge all our esteemed party members in Oyo North to turn out in large numbers for the rally and warmly welcome Hon. Shina Peller to the PDP family,” it continued.

With expectations running high, the upcoming rally promises to be a momentous occasion, signaling a significant realignment of political forces within the state.
