Why Former Oyo Speaker Rejects Appointment As Senior Legislative Aide

In a surprising turn of events, the former speaker of the Oyo state house of assembly and minority leader at the 9th assembly, Rt. Hon. Asimiyu Alarape, has rejected his appointment as senior legislative aide to the speaker of the house of representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas (Ph.D). Alarape’s decision was conveyed in a personal letter he signed and shared with Newsmen.

The appointment, which was made by Speaker Abbas on October 11, 2023, came as a shock to Alarape, who expressed his disappointment in the lack of recognition for his unwavering support and dedication to the All Progressives Congress (APC) party. He had expected a reward for his commitment, not only as a candidate during the 2023 general elections but also as a loyal party member.

Alarape also expressed his concern over the premature circulation of the appointment letter on social media before he had received it, finding it disconcerting.

Nevertheless, he extended his gratitude to Speaker Abbas for considering him worthy of the appointment and acknowledged Hon. Akeem Adeyemi (Skimeh) for the recommendation.
