The Oyo state chapter of People’s Democratic Party has extended it’s hearty congratulations to governor Godwin Obaseki, and by extension, to the good people of Edo State on his victory at the just concluded Election in Edo.
The congratulatory message contained in a Statement signed through the its state publicity secretary, Engr Akeem Olatunji, and made available to newsmen on Monday, 21st Sept, 2020.
The Party attributed governor Obaseki’s victory to the people of Edo adding that his victory was indeed a struggle for self government and liberation of the south south from the scorge of godfatherism and Nigerian Politics at large.
In the statement, Oyo PDP said that Nigerians are now fully aware of the deceptive tactics deployed by APC to delude the masses, and how that some unscrupulous people are used to promote such diversionary tactics in the society.
The party added that godfatherism has become a thing of the past in Oyo owing to political goodwill, Leadership prowess, clarity of Purpose, record breaking achievement of governor Seyi Makinde.
The party specifically commended Governor Seyi Makinde, Governor Nyesom Wike, Governor Okowa, Prince Uche Secondus, and crops of intellectual leaders whose concerted efforts led to the end of godfatherism in politics stressing that Ondo is next after Edo state stressing that it is now evident that no external influence both from Lagos or Abuja can subvert the resolved will of the people.
The party explained that Edo State Election has awakened political consciousness in Nigerians that the era of Political blackmail has disappeared to the thing air, added that the victory was also for the PDP family.
The party noted that performance, integrity, commitment, and the political will to deliver without interference from some ‘godfathers’ must be the bane of entrusting power to anyone seeking public office.
Oyo state PDP noted further, that Obaseki’s performance as the governor of Edo state in the last four years satisfied the people which was why they have renewed his mandate of another four years in a resounding manner.
Oyo state PDP described Obaseki as the first governor in Nigeria to govern a state on the platform of both APC and PDP in successive succession stressing that only sterling performance can make anyone achieve such political feat.
The statement likewise commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies for what it described as a job well done noting that INEC has proven in full it’s autonomy as the electoral umpire in Nigeria, the issue of federal might in election will end naturally.
The State chapter urged opposition parties in Edo state, especially candidate of the APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-iyamu in the 2020 governorship election, to embrace peace and extend the hand of brotherhood to the government for the development of the State.
