In Iwerele, Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State, a tense situation unfolded on Monday as a clash erupted between Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Amotekun, Operation Burst, Soludero, and a group of herdsmen. Reports suggest that multiple fatalities have occurred, although the exact number is yet to be confirmed.
The cause of the conflict remains unclear at this time. However, a reliable source, a titled Chief in the community, informed The PUNCH about the clash. According to the source, the conflict began when a group of herdsmen invaded a farm in the community, leading to a fatal outcome during an argument with the farm owner.
Efforts were made to restore peace in the area by deploying combined security operatives from Operation Burst, OPC, Amotekun, and Soludero. However, they allegedly faced an ambush by the herdsmen.
As of now, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, has not provided a response or comment on the situation.
