Tragedy struck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as a yet-to-be-identified man lost his life in an accident involving 16 individuals. The incident occurred at the Magboro Bust Stop early Sunday morning, around 7.50am. Seven passengers were also reported injured in the crash.

The collision involved two vehicles, a Mercedes Benz ML350 with the number plate AKD424HH and a Volkswagen commercial bus with the number plate KSF934YA. An eyewitness, Opeyemi Lateef, explained that the accident unfolded when the Mercedes Benz swerved to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road. In doing so, the vehicle collided with the parked commercial bus, whose driver was waiting for passengers at the bus stop.

Another witness, who preferred to remain anonymous, attributed the cause of the accident to both the unchecked parking of commercial vehicles at the bus stop and speeding. He shared, “I heard that the Benz driver was trying to avoid a pedestrian crossing the highway before he lost control and collided with the bus.”

Confirming the incident, Florence Okpe, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Sector Command, stated that the accident occurred due to speeding. She shared, “The accident took place at approximately 7.50am on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Magboro Bust Stop, heading towards Lagos. A total of sixteen individuals were involved, comprising eight males and eight females. Among them, seven sustained injuries, while one person tragically lost their life.”

Okpe expressed concern over the haphazard parking of commercial vehicles on highways, emphasizing that it remains a significant cause of accidents at the Magboro Bus Stop.
