The Oyo State Government has taken a significant step towards community development by disbursing a total sum of N159,458,373.75 (One Hundred and Fifty-Nine Million, Four Hundred and Fifty-Eight Thousand, Three Hundred and Seventy-Three Naira, Seventy-Five Kobo) to eleven communities within the state. These funds have been allocated for various micro projects aimed at enhancing the well-being of the communities involved.
The projects encompass a wide range of initiatives, including the construction or renovation of classrooms equipped with furniture, borehole drilling, and the construction or renovation of community health centers. This allocation is part of the Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) program, which aims to provide support to communities affected by the pandemic.
During a two-day training session held in Ibadan, the Community Project Management Committees (CPMCs) received their cheques. This training was designed to equip committee members with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively implement the micro projects within their respective communities.
The chosen communities set to benefit from this initiative include Ajinde 2 Community in Ibadan South-West Local Government, Otesin-Maye community in Oyo East Local Government, Olohunde-Ige community in Oluyole Local Government, Ajumose Community in Iseyin Local Government, Ore-Ofe Community in Olorunsogo Local Government, and Ifelanilo Community in Ibarapa North Local Government.
Additionally, Ayekale Kalubi community in Oriire Local Government, Aseyori community in Oyo West, Oloro-Olomo community in Ido Local Government, Alaseyori community in Igbojaye, Itesiwaju Local Government, and Alubarika/Asabari community in Asabari LCDA, Saki, have also been selected as beneficiaries.
Mr. Salaudeen Jelili, the General Manager of the Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (OYCSDA), emphasized the importance of community participation and ownership in these projects. Each community will be paid fifteen million naira for their micro projects, with the state government contributing 97.5% of the funds and the community contributing 2.5%. This approach aims to foster a sense of responsibility and ensure the sustainability of these initiatives.
Jelili also highlighted that the OYCSDA will continue to monitor and provide technical guidance and evaluation to guarantee the long-term success of these projects.
The training event was attended by members of the State CARES Coordinating unit and a representative from the State’s anti-corruption agency, OYACA.
Chief Folorunsho Ige, the Baale of Olohunde-Ige community in Oluwole Local Government, expressed gratitude to Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde for his comprehensive developmental efforts in both urban and rural areas. Chief Ige urged the benefiting communities to complete the projects within the specified timeframe and with high-quality materials to ensure their sustainability.
